Lim Choon Kiat
Bishan · Course 3
I turned 52 this year and had been putting off a proper review of my CPF situation for several years. The Retirement Framework course gave me the structure I needed. By week four I had a clearer picture of what the CPF LIFE election actually means for my specific situation than I had managed to piece together from years of reading online.

Tampines · Course 2
I had a CDP account but never fully understood the difference between S-REITs and regular equities until the SGX course. The instructor was patient and the pace suited me well — I have a demanding job and genuinely could not have kept up with a more intensive format. The session on bond ETFs alone changed how I think about my fixed income allocation.

Queenstown · Course 1
I was hesitant because I assumed this type of course would eventually try to sell me something. It did not. What I appreciated was the directness — here is how household finance works in Singapore, here is a workbook to document your own position, and here are the questions you should be asking. Very practical.

Woodlands · Course 3
The CareShield Life session was something I had never found clearly explained anywhere else. My mother had some care needs in her later years and I wanted to understand what I was actually covered for before I reached that stage myself. The instructor went through the premium structure and severe disability definitions without glossing over the details.

Clementi · Courses 1 & 2
I completed the household finance course first and then enrolled in the SGX course. Taking them in sequence was the right decision — the first course gave me a framework for thinking about my overall financial picture that made the investment content more meaningful. I would suggest that approach to anyone considering both.

I am 48 and my husband and I had been meaning to sit down and properly review our retirement planning for some time. The nine-week format felt long before we started and exactly right by the end. Having a week between sessions to do the workbook exercises and think about what we had covered meant the material actually settled rather than washing over us.

Case Studies
Participant Journeys
Case Study 01
Challenge
A 54-year-old civil servant approaching retirement had made no CPF LIFE election decision and was uncertain about her Integrated Shield Plan rider. She had collected articles and CPF Board summaries over several years but could not make sense of how they applied to her specific account balances.
Approach
She enrolled in the Retirement Framework Deep Review. Over nine weeks she documented her CPF account breakdown, modelled her projected LIFE payout under different schemes, and reviewed her Shield Plan with the instructor during a dedicated session.
Outcome
By the end of the course she had a written summary of her retirement position, a clear view of the LIFE election she intended to make, and a list of specific questions to take to her financial planner. She enrolled her husband in the following intake.
Case Study 02
Challenge
A 46-year-old manager had accumulated some savings in a brokerage account but had never studied the instruments he had purchased beyond reading brief descriptions at point of sale. He was uncertain whether his mix of REITs and unit trusts made sense for his stage of life.
Approach
He attended the SGX Instruments course. The sessions on REIT structure, distribution yield mechanics, and the comparison between unit trusts and ETFs gave him a framework for reviewing his existing holdings with greater clarity.
Outcome
He left the course with a documented review of his portfolio and a clearer understanding of the fees he was paying. He made some adjustments independently and subsequently enrolled in the Retirement Framework course in the following semester.
Case Study 03
Challenge
A couple in their early fifties had never sat down to produce a household balance sheet. Their finances had grown gradually more complex — a HDB flat with outstanding loan, two CDP accounts, CPF savings, and an endowment policy — but they had never reviewed the whole picture in one place.
Approach
Both attended the Household Finance course together. The workbook exercises in sessions one and two — personal balance sheet and cash flow — gave them a shared document that they had previously lacked. The insurance session revealed a coverage gap they addressed subsequently.
Outcome
They completed the course with a written household balance sheet, an annual cash flow summary, and a checklist of insurance and CPF actions to review. Both have since enrolled in the Retirement Framework course.
